With the departure of head baseball coach Paul Mainieri, hitting coach Monte Lee will assume the duties as interim coach for the rest of the season, a university source confirmed to The State.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Paul Mainieri is out as South Carolina’s baseball coach midway through his second season after he couldn’t approach the level of success he had produced at LSU.

"Jeremiah Donati and I have agreed that the baseball program will be better served with new leadership," Mainieri said in a statement, according to The State Newspaper's Jordan Kaye.
